The Beauty of A Busy Mind
This is the final post of a series. Start here for the full series overview.
Our brains are remarkable—constantly scanning, protecting, connecting, and helping us navigate the world. And sometimes, they get a little carried away.
Think of a toddler “helping” in the kitchen. They genuinely want to contribute, but their efforts don’t always go as planned. It can be a little chaotic and sometimes stressful. It’s also earnest, alive, and full of heart.
That’s our brain sometimes: trying to help, occasionally getting tangled in its own efforts, but always doing its best to keep us safe, connected, and prepared.
When you notice yourself overthinking a conversation, rereading a text you sent, or feeling uneasy after saying no to someone—or maybe your inner critic pipes up, insisting you should’ve handled things better—see if you can acknowledge these patterns with kindness.
It’s tempting to see these moments as flaws, but they’re not. They’re part of being human.
Try This
Ask: “What is my brain trying to do right now—protect, connect, or prepare?”
Consider one small step of awareness before reacting. Maybe a breath. Maybe a smile at the humanness of it all.
You don’t need to fight your mind. You can work with it, laugh a little at its good intentions, and allow yourself to engage fully in life—imperfect, unpredictable, and beautifully human.
If these reflections resonated and you’d like to explore them more personally, I offer therapy to California residents seeking relief from anxiety, worry, and overthinking.
